1.  Prefect Patrick Usher, S.S.C.M.E. † ( Prefect of Bhamo, Myanmar )

A Brief Biography of Prefect Patrick Usher (Prefect Apostolic of Bhamo)

He was born on January 7, 1939. He was one of Columban missionary priests working among the Kachins. In 1939, the Columban area become the Prefecture Apostolic of Bhamo. Then, he was appointed Prefect Apostolic of Bhamo and he gave services to the Kachins with his 38 Columban priests. He went to Heavenly Home in 1958.

 

2.  Archbishop Paul Zingtung Grawng ( Archbishop Emeritus of Mandalay, Myanmar )

A Brief Biography of Archbishop Paul Zingtung Grawng

Bishop Paul Zinghtung Grawng was born on March 20, 1938 in Lunghkat, Kachin State, Myanmar. He was ordained as the first Kachin priest on March 27, 1965. On January 24, 1976, he was appointed Auxiliary Bishop of Myitkyina and Titular Bishop of Rusguniae. On April 3, 1976, he was ordained Titular Bishop of Rusguniae. Then, He was appointed Bishop of Myitkyina on December 9, 1976 at the age of 38. After many years of serving as a good shepherd, he was appointed Archbishop of Mandalay and was installed Archbishop of Mandalay on June 16, 2003. During his espicopate, he was twice president of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Myanmar and served in various commissions in the Federation of Asian Bishops Conferences. At the age of 76, he retired from his pastoral governance of Archdiocese of Mandalay on April 3, 2014. At the age of 82, he returned to Heavenly Home on October 24, 2020.

 

3.  Bishop Francis Daw Tang (Myitkyina Diocese)

A Brief Biography of Bishop Francis Daw Tang (Emeritus)  

Bishop Francis Daw Tang was born on December 19, 1946 in Bum Dum village, Panghkak parish. He was ordianed a deacon on December 4, 1979, in St. Joseph Catholic Major Seminary, Yangon. He was ordainded a priest on March 15, 1979, at Panghkak parish, by Bishop Paul Zinghtung Grawng. He then served in Nanghling parish for 14 years. From 1993-2002, he served as a Phakant parish priest. On April 11, 2002, he was episcopally ordained and served as Auxiliary Bishop of Myitkyina. He was appointed Apostolic Administrator of Myitkyina diocese indefinitely on June 11, 2003. On December 3, 2004, Pope John Paul II appointed him to be Bishop of Myitkyina. After many years of administering apostolate work, he asked Holy Father to resign from his apostolate ministry. Holy Father Pope Francis accepted his resignation letter. He retired from the pastoral governance of the diocese of Myitkyin on November 18, 2020.

 

 

 

4.  Bishop John James Howe

A Brief Biography of Bishop John James Howe

Bishop John James Howe was born on Jan 20, 1912 in Ballinakill, Diocese of Clonfert, Ireland. On December 21, 1936, he was ordained a priest at St. Columban's College, Dalgan Park, Galway, Diocese of Galway and Kilmacduagh, Ireland. While he was conducting pastroal ministry in Kachin State, he was appointed Prefect of Bhamo on July 18, 1959. In 1961, the Prefecture Apostolic was erected into the Diocese of Myitkyina and he was appointed Bishop of Myitkyina on February 21, 1961. Then, he was consecreted Bishop of Myitkyina by His Grace Archbishop J. U Win of Mandalay. On December 9, 1976 he resigned from his pastoral governance of Myitkyina Diocese and died on March 7, 2000 in Navan, Ireland.

5.  Bishop Philip Lasap Za Hawng (Auxiliary Bishop of Myitkyina)

A Brief Biography of Bishop Philip Lasap Za Hawng

Bishop Philip Lasap Za Hawng was born on Feb 12, 1945. He was ordained a priest on March 1, 1973 and appointed Auxiliary Bishop of Myitkyina on Dec 20, 1993. His episcopal ordination was on April 30, 1994. He served four years as the Auxiliary Bishop in Myitkyina Diocese. After four years of serving as a good shepherd, he was installed Bishop of Lashio on Oct 4, 1998. He retired from the pastoral governance of Lashio Diocese on June 24, 2020.
